Your Mysterious Maze Questions - Answered!
Here are some questions we've received: Q: My son needs some activities to improve his fine motor skills. Is it true that many Occupational Therapists recommend solving mazes as a form of therapy? A: Absolutely! Many Occupational Therapists will tell you that mazes can be a fun way of improving your son's eye-hand coordination. It is one form of therapy that he will be excited to do! Q: My daughter is at an age where she can't read on her own yet but loves puzzles and coloring books. Can you recommend an easily portable educational activity for her that she can take with her when we go out places that is not messy? A: I recommend one of our personalized maze activity books! They are very popular with parents looking for educational activities that will keep their children entertained when they go out as a family to places such as restaurants. Children don't have to be able to read to push pencils through easy puzzle mazes! Q: We are planning an outdoor activity for over a hundred families and are encouraging the families to bring their children. What group activities can we plan for the children to keep them busy? A: We have portable life-size mazes of various sizes that can be set-up indoors or outdoors in any space large enough. One maze in particular is built out of aluminum poles and large colorful canvas panels which can be decorated with banners containing educational information or corporate logos. The maze itself can be designed to keep children and adults challenged trying to walk through and solve. We have also designed various games and activities that can be used in conjunction with the maze such as team building activities or learning exercises. These particular portable mazes has been used for both fun-filled team building games at corporate outings as well as exciting learning experiences for local faires. Q: I was reading somewhere about people using labyrinths for healing. I thought they were just mazes. What's the difference between a maze and a labyrinth and what are labyrinths used for? A: A labyrinth is a maze with only one long and winding path (often called a unicursal maze). These true 'labyrinths' have no false pathways or dead ends. They consist of one meandering path from the entrance to the center (and sometimes back out again). There are many modern uses for the single-pathed labyrinth. One of the most popular uses for the labyrinth is as a tool for spiritual awakening, spiritual healing and relaxation. Some people are using labyrinths to combat a spiritual crisis they are having in their life sometimes in their homes, their schools, or in their social or political institutions. Many churches and organizations are starting to encorporate "walking the labyrinth" into their services and daily rituals. ----- Send us your questions!
